I’ll post some introductory reviews in the next couple days, but for now, just wanted to “show off” the latest additions to my “workshop” (a term I still use in the loosest possible sense as I’m still a Downtown-dweller with but a large patio from which to work).
Last weekend, I jumped on a HD deal of the day that offered an 18V Ridgid drill/driver and impact driver kit, along with two batteries for $149. After placing the order, though, I saw the 12V Ridgid kit for $99 and thought, with a servicable and hardly-used C3 rig in my closet, I would be better off. So, was going to jump on the orange 12V and then saw the Milwaukee M12 kit, including a bonus third (XC) battery, was on sale for $129. Couldn’t pass that up. Took about six trips to different HD stores because for reasons beyond me, retailers have yet to find a way to accurately present inventory information online—or even in the store. But, I finally got it and needless to say, I’m in love. And I fell even more in love when I found another HD store that had forgotten to change the price sticker from $99 to $129 and, thanks to state law …. I got the difference refunded.
Now, I’m going to skip over how another HD screw-up made the next purchase possible, and move right to the final piece to my collection: the Ridgid 10-inch table saw. It was a Black Friday special at $199 and, sadly, it hadn’t (yet) been marked down like many of the other specials. But, I managed to find one of the last three in the area and managed to get it for $100 (again, skipping over that part). Ran out this afternoon, brought it home (registered for the LSA) and set it up.
It’s supposed to be seasonably mild but dry for the next few days, so I’m hoping to give the saw a little test work. I can tell right off the bat, the blade will need some adjusting but overall, it appears to be a pretty solid, basic machine that should give me many years of use and, before that, education.
This pretty much fills out my shop basics. A miter saw; a table saw; plunge/fixed/palm routers; 19.2V drill and driving kit; 12V drill and driving kit; detail sander, belt sander and 1/4-sheet pad sander (thinking about grabbing a refurb orbital from DTO this weekend) and, after I get my new screwdrivers and pliers from Santa, my basic hand tool collection will be complete. Starting to look at some hand planes as the next step, but that will have to wait until spring.
Now, I suppose, I should go cook the CEO/CFO some dinner and start kissing ass for the closet space I continue to take up. And, for yet another tool in absence of a ring.
Reviews coming soon, folks. Thanks for reading.
